Photoshop-like programs, but free?

Are there any programs I can download for free that do the same things as Photoshop, but are free and legal? And that won't give me any computer problems, viruses, etc..

its called theft dear. Otherwise, nothing is for free in this great consumer society we live in!
The GIMP (google it) is the closest free and harmless match to Photoshop. You can also try other programs such as OpenCanvas, Deep Paint, and various programs that are in browser. :]

While I have never used Photoshop, I do use two programs that are really good and totally free. One is Photofiltre and the other is The Gimp. I would recommend either and both of these.
