Photoshop CS3 help with text?

Okay i have a problem when i try to type text on a photo it won't cause the text ends up being all small i have tried different fonts and in different sizes.

can any one help me?

okay so the pic looks crappy but the text wont show in the box

Click on the text-size box, then you can type any number larger than 72.

EDIT:

Try typing your text while the picture is 100% zoom, not 616%.

I can't really figure out what's wrong?!!
